Blinn College – Bryan Campus

For over 131 years, since its founding in 1883, Blinn College has been recognized as one of the first and best public junior community colleges in the state of Texas. Since its inception, Blinn has gone through many changes in name and defining purpose. Its dedication to individual and communal progress through education, however, has remained steadfast.

It was initially a Methodist Memorial College, and then converted to an academy in the early 1900s. In the 1930s, a congressional vote converted the school into the public junior college it is today. An important change was its separation from the Methodist school of teaching and conversion to a non-secular college. Since then, it has served the Texas community and the numerous students that have gone through its doors for over 70 years.

Blinn is considered to be one of the most affordable community colleges in the United States and it continues to be a top provider of continuing education with over four campuses all around Texas. Blinn specializes in technical programs and two-year vocational courses such as Small Business Management and Nursing. More importantly, the college boasts the highest academic transfer success rate in Texas, with majority of its students later attending Texas A&M, the largest university in the area.

Blinn College’s Bryan Campus was established in the 1970s and is the most heavily attended of the four satellite campuses. Built on more than 80 acres of sprawling Texas land, it lies in the middle of a bustling district. Its popularity is partly due to its ideal location near Texas A&M and in the heart of Central Texas; and partly due to its high transfer success rate – many of its graduates go on to attend 4-year universities nearby or out of state. As of this year, there are over 19,000 students enrolled in this campus.
